Gia-Gina Across the Pond

So I've decided to follow my husband to his native Italy. Follow our adventures as we eat, drink, travel, adapt to and explore this remarkable country. Part food blog, part photo blog but mostly my rants and raves. After our two years in Italy, we relocated across the Atlantic "pond" and are back in the States.

Our Weekend

This past weekend we had to make the trek to Rome because Sunday was voting day. On the way down, the radio posted news of the Pope’s health and said he had taken a turn for the worse and had been given his last rites. On Saturday we went out to dinner with an old friend of Deme’s and while at dinner we heard that the Pope had passed away. Saint Peter’s square was absolutely flooded with people the next day. Rome was really mourning and sad over the loss. I watched the news that morning and saw the crowds.

The rest of the weekend was subdued. We went to the museum in Rome where the Guggenheim Collection was on loan from New York. On the way back to Turin, we were supposed to stay in Pisa for the night as Demetrio had a business meeting there on Monday. We arrived in Pisa at about 21:20 (9:20 pm) had a quick look at the Leaning Tower and then realized that I had not brought my passport which meant we could not check into the hotel. To make a long story short, we headed back to Turin 2 ½ hours later, we were in bed about midnight. I apologized the whole way home because I knew the next morning he would have to leave the house at 6:00 ( 6 am ) to make a 9:30 (9:30 am) meeting.
